Prosper Can't Catch Up To Belton In Area Opener

Prosper fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 13-6 loss to Belton on Thursday in the first game of a best-of-three Area Playoff series. Belton scored on a home run by Caleigh Robinson in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Bethany Sherwood in the second inning, and a passed ball during Robinson's at bat in the second inning.

Despite the loss, Prosper did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Belton had 13 hits on the way to victory.

Belton pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Sherwood's sac fly scored one run for Belton and Robinson drew a walk, scoring one run.

Prosper scored three runs in the fifth inning. Prosper's big bats in the inning were led by a home run by Gabby Coffey and by Sydney Lewis.

Belton scored four runs in the fourth inning. Maddison Parker and Isabelle Gutierrez each had RBIs in the frame.

Madison Cotton earned the victory in the circle for Belton. She lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out three. Taylor Tubbs threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Elissa Griffin took the loss for Prosper. She surrendered six runs on five hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one.

Prosper socked two home runs on the day. Abbey Beasley had a long ball in the second inning. Coffey had a homer in the fifth inning.

Prosper collected ten hits on the day. Lexie Bell, Ayden Allen, and Beasley each had multiple hits for Prosper. Bell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Prosper in hits.

Belton racked up 13 hits. Parker, Madison Ward, Gutierrez, and Robinson each managed multiple hits for Belton.
